All public safety personnel, including off duty police officers, and executive protection agents, are required by law to carry and maintain a guard card.
This 8 hour California State required class is mandatory before any person can work a security guard post. This includes off duty law enforcement officers, security guard, alarm agent and proprietary security officer. This course will teach students the skills necessary to apply for a guard card with the Department of Consumer Affairs - Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS). Proof of I.D (passport or driver license).
Note: We DO NOT issue your guard card. The State of California, BSIS issues the card. We provide the mandatory training in order to apply for your card.
NEW LAW: As of Jan. 1,2024 the guard card training MUST be in person only. BSIS will not accept online guard card training course. As of now, BSIS will accept the additional required training classes (module B and C) online but NOT the guard card course.

A certificate of completion will be awarded upon completion of the modules.
This Module D course is required by BSIS in order to renew your CA guard card.
The continuing education requirement, of an additional 8 hours pursuant to Business and Professions Code Section 7583.6(f) (1), commenced on January 5, 2005.
When you receive your renewal guard paperwork from BSIS, it states that you need 8 hours of continuous education in order to renew. This Module D course will suffice the requirement. Once the course is completed, you will download your certificate. Send a copy of the certificate to BSIS along with your guard card application.
